The center provides state-of-the-art technology and expertise in HPC, HPDA and AI and makes it available to Czech and international academic, industrial, and public organizations.
In the framework of IT4Innovations an excellent research in High Performance Computing (HPC), High Performance Data Analysis (HDPA), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is performed. The main research areas of IT4Innovations include big data processing and analysis, machine learning, development of parallel scalable algorithms, supercomputing technology development, solution of computationally demanding engineering problems, advanced visualization, virtual reality, modelling for nanotechnologies and materialdesign.
IT4Innovations has a strong focus on cooperation with industrial enterprises, earning IT4Innovation the status of the Digital Innovation Hub registered at the European Commission level. In this context, IT4Innovations has developed a partnership with the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre Ostrava and in 2020 the Digital Innovation Hub Ostrava has been established.
IT4Innovations is a part of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava and together with another two infrastructures CESNET and CERIT-SC constitutes e-Infrastructure of the Czech Republic called e-INFRA CZ.
IT4Innovations is a member of the most important European organizations related to the field of high-performance computing and data analysis: PRACE, ETP4HPC, I4MS, EUDAT, BDVA. IT4Innovations also participates in EuroHPC JU hosting so-called EuroHPC petascale computing system and being a member of the LUMI consortium which is going to install and operate one of the best performing supercomputer in Europe and worldwide: EuroHPC pre-exascale LUMI supercomputer.
At present, IT4Innovations runs four supercomputers: Anselm (94 TFlop/s, installed in the summer of 2013), Salomon (2 PFlop/s, installed in the summer of 2015), Barbora (849 TFlop/s, installed in the autumn of 2019) and a special system for artificial intelligence computation NVIDIA DGX-2 (130 TFlop/s and 2 PFlop/s in AI, installed in the spring 2019). A petascale EURO_IT4I system with computing power approximately 13.6 PFlop/s will be installed at the center in 2021 as part of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.

IT4Innovations uses part of its computational resources in cooperation with industrial partners from various industrial sectors. Enterprises may rent the computational resources as well as use the knowledge of IT4Innovations experts to solve particular complex problems. Enterprises interested in IT4Innovations contract research services are mainly based in mechanical engineering (for example, development of computer models for pump efficiency optimization and design of passenger train seats) and information technology (for example, inventory stock management, crisis management support, and train delay prediction) industries. Further cooperation is established with enterprises active in automotive, aeronautical, transportation, medical, geology, geodesy, environmental, and other sectors.
