The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is a non-profit Foundation, and one of the centres of the CERCA Institution. Its Patrons are the Generalitat de Catalunya, CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. It was created with the founding objective of becoming a world-renowned centre for nanoscience and nanotechnology research. Its mission is to achieve scientific and technological excellence in these fields. All its human and economic resources are dedicated to achieving this mission. We do so by incubating new fundamental knowledge and ideas, and facilitating the adoption and integration of nanotechnologies into society and industry. To this end, research at ICN2 encompasses: (i) Basic science, primarily via European and national collaborative projects, including frontier areas, and (ii) Technology: in areas of in-house expertise and in conjunction with industry. Therefore, ICN2 interacts closely with universities, research centres, technology centres, private sector R&D, the scientific community and society in general.

—Development and manufacturing of state-of-the-art of organic and inorganic nanoparticles as well as conjugation “a –la-carte” at laboratory and pilot plant scale for multiple industrial and research applications and their complete physical and chemical characterisation.
—Micro and nano-fabrications: metallisation, lithography, nanoimprinting, self-assembling, Dip Pen Nanolithography, etc. of a wide range of materials and applications and metrology services.
—Development of specific customized biosensors for medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, food quality control, safety and security applications.
