As the food industry faces an array of challenges such as changing diets, climate change, resource depletion, demographics and globalisation, food robotics could help mastering some of those, e.g. by increasing production efficiency, allowing for flexible changes in products or by assisting an ageing work force.
This report therefore aims to provide an overview of relevant stakeholders with an analytical and empirical base to see how Advanced Technology based products can help EU industry to stay ahead of global competition. The objective is to map the EU food robotics industry and its interactions in the value chain, as well as to identify its strengths and weaknesses. Analyses are based on desk-research, the internal expertise of Fraunhofer ISI and on expert interviews.
